Board of Directors

Dennis Murphy is the Chairman and President of A Special Blend and has been an active board member since 2017. He retired in 2021 after 35 years as a business leader with a multi-national corporation and is now a small business owner in the medical industry. Dennis and his wife Cheryl have been married for 40 years and have three daughters and two grandchildren. Their 33-year-old daughter has intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Becky O'Hare has been involved with A Special Blend from the very beginning and serves as vice president of the company. After college she worked with "At Risk" teenagers in the Greensboro area until having children of her own. Becky recently retired from 13 years as a property manager in her family's business. She and her husband, Rick (married in 1980) have 6 grown children, one of whom may greet you as you enter A Special Blend, and 12 grandchildren. They are lifelong active members of Westover Church in Greensboro.

Jo Hughes is the Fundraising chair of A Special Blend. She is a Psychiatric Physician Assistant treating patients of all ages for mental health conditions in High Point and Greensboro. She has lived in Greensboro with her husband and three children for past 22 years. Her middle daughter, 23 years old, has intellectual and developmental disabilities and currently works at the coffee shop.

Terri Ramsey is the coordinator of volunteers at A Special Blend. She enjoys recruiting and training these “Blend Friends”, who play a vital role in the community connection the shop enjoys.  An educator and speech language therapist, Terri has served as advisor and has taught at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro since 1999. She has two college-age daughters and sneaks away to Chapel Hill as often as she can to spend time with them and cheer for the Tar Heels.

Nita Canon joined the board of directors in 2021. She has been a Medical Careers Educator in Guilford County Schools for the past 10 years where she teaches and prepares students to be in the healthcare profession. She is an advisor of HOSA-Health Occupations Students of America, Piedmont Triad Region, where the mission to promote quality health care and serve the community is its vision.  She has assisted ASB in OSHA training and review of infection control policies. Nita is also a Registered Nurse. She has been married to Jimmy for the past 31 years and has 4 wonderful adult children.  Two of them work at ASB-Greensboro.

Jeb Burns joined the board of directors in 2022. He held various management positions in the forest products industry before reinventing his life as a middle school teacher. He taught for 13 years and retired from teaching full-time in 2020. As a retiree, he has been able to devote more time to various organizations he has been a part of over the years, Community Bible Study, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and A Special Blend. He got involved with ASB through his wife of 33 years, Molly, who was Young Life Capernaum Leader. Jeb shares his wife’s passion for this community and the mission of A Special Blend. He has three adult children all of whom have volunteered over the years with the community served by ASB.

Dave Kovach joined the board of directors in 2022 and holds the position of Treasurer. He is currently the Vice President – Treasurer at Kontoor Brands, Inc. which is headquartered in Greensboro, NC and has worked in various finance-related roles for 25+ years.  He has been a long-time supporter of A Special Blend and was one of the original founding contributors.  He is married and has 5 adult children.

Rebecca Coplin joined the board of directors in 2022. Rebecca is the Beautification Supervisor for the City of High Point and leads the Keep High Point Beautiful program. She has a BA in Political Science and a minor in History from UNCG.   Rebecca lives in High Point with her son Coley, who has high functioning autism.

David Miller joined the Board of Directors in 2023. David has held many leadership positions in High Point over the past 30 years. Miller has been a GTCC trustee since 1999. He is the president of DS Miller in High Point and has been a member of the board of directors for Guilford Education Alliance since 2012. He has also held leadership positions with United Way of North Carolina, High Point Community Foundation, Open Door Ministries and Guilford County Partners Ending Homelessness. He is currently a Board Member of Business High Point as well as First United Methodist Church.

Lee Tillery began working for the High Point Parks and Recreation Department in January 2013 as the Assistant Director. He has over 25 years’ collective experience in the municipal Parks and Recreation field. Lee has been active with the North Carolina Recreation and Park Association, serving in various capacities including as President in 2021. He is active in various organizations and committees throughout High Point. This includes serving on the Board of Directors for the Macedonia Resource Center, High Point Arts Council and Visit HP. A native of Statesville, NC, Lee holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Carolina University in Sport Management and a Master of Arts Degree in Higher Education from Appalachian State University. Lee is also a 2017 graduate of the School of Municipal Administration through the University of North Carolina School of Government. Additionally, Lee attended and completed the National Recreation and Parks Association - Directors School in 2019. Lee is the proud father of four children. He is married to his best friend Ashley since 2015. They reside in High Point and attend Wesley Memorial Methodist Church. Spending time with family, traveling and working together to manage Ashley’s business, AlphaLit, in both the Piedmont and Mountains is a big part of life as well.
